Speaker Profile Daniel Eisenberg

Dr. Daniel Eisenberg is a radiologist in the Department of Radiology at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA and an Assistant Professor of Diagnostic Imaging at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine.  He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania and received his M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.  After an internal medicine internship at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, he returned to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for his radiology residency and nuclear medicine fellowship. Dr. Eisenberg spent two years studying at the Heiden Torah Institute in Jerusalem (Machon Shlomo). 

Dr. Eisenberg directs the Albert Einstein Jewish Medical Ethics Initiative, an organization dedicated to improving healthcare in the Philadelphia region by serving as a resource that provides a systematic ethical approach to current bioethical issues, based on traditional Jewish teachings. He has taught a weekly Jewish medical ethics class for 20 years and moderates the Jewish medical ethics study group at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Dr. Eisenberg sat on the hospital institutional ethics committee and now sits on the Institutional Review Board (IRB). He received the Shofar Award, a national award for community service, from the National Council of Young Israel in 1998.

Dr. Eisenberg is a noted lecturer in the area of Jewish medical ethics and is a member of the National Council of Young Israel, United Jewish Communities, and Aish Connections speakers bureaus. He lectured yearly at the International Conference for Jewish Medical Ethics in San Francisco and served as a National Community Lecturer for the Institute for Jewish Medical Ethics in San Francisco. Dr. Eisenberg has served as the yearly medical ethics scholar-in-residence since 2001 for the New England Institute for Jewish Studies in Jerusalem and lectures for the Schlesinger Institute for Medical Halachic Research at Shaarei Tzeddek Medical Center in Jerusalem.  In 2007, Dr. Eisenberg presented the prestigious Chief Rabbi Jakobovits Memorial Jewish Medical Ethics Lecture in London.

Dr. Eisenberg wrote the medical ethics column for the quarterly publication, Maimonides: Health in the Jewish World, from 1996 to 2000. He has more recently published multiple medical ethics articles in both the scholarly and lay press, contributing to both secular and Jewish books and periodicals. His articles and chapters have appeared in Beracha Le'Avraham , The Hadassah Jewish Family Book of Health and Wellness , and Global Viewpoints- Abortion and periodicals and journals such as Cancer Investigation, Assia-Jewish Medical Ethics, the Jewish Press, The Jewish Observer, and Jlaw.com. Dr. Eisenberg has also written over 30 Jewish medical ethics articles for Aish.com. Most recently, Dr. Eisenberg has developed the content for the human subject research web-based instructional module in ethics and professionalism for the American Board of Radiology.
