Rabbi Howard Jachter
For more than a decade, Rabbi Howard Jachter has been serving as a teacher of Gemarah, Tanach, Mishna and Halacha at the Torah Academy of Bergen County (TABC). He also serves as a 'get' administrator for the Beth Din of Elizabeth and is widely recognized as a leading expert in this field. Rabbi Jachter also served as the Rav of the Sephardic Congregation of Teaneck from 2000 to 2003.
Rabbi Jachter has published more than sixty scholarly articles in Torah journals both in America and Israel. Many of his halachic essays appear in TABC's weekly Kol Torah publication, of which he is the faculty advisor. Last summer, Rabbi Jachter instituted a Tanach Kollel at the Torah Academy.
Together with Ezra Frazer, a TABC alumnus and faculty member, Rabbi Jachter published two volumes entitled 'Gray Matter.' Both of these books focus on contemporary halachic issues. Rabbi Jachter has also written a sefer entitled 'bikurei sukkah' which is a compilation of his and his students' insights on maseches sukkah from his 5763 TABC Gemarah class. A similar volume on Sanhedrin from his 5764 TABC Gemarah class entitled, 'Pneinei Torah' was also recently published. His next volume, 'Bikurei Shabbat' has just been published. Rabbi Jachter has also produced a CD on halachic issues regarding Living Wills together with attorney Martin Shenkman.
Rabbi Jachter has both a bachelors and masters degrees from Yeshiva University and its Bernard Revel Graduate School. He received Yoreh Yoreh and Yadin Yadin semicha from RIETS.
Rabbi Jachter, his wife Malca, and their four children live in Teaneck, NJ.
